Helsinki Comics Festival

Here's my stall at the Helsinki comics festival . It Included some new comic publications I've just self-published from the Adam's Dream story and an array of prints. The stall seemed to go down well with the Helsinki crowd. I will be updating my online shop soon incase you want to get your hands on any of the work on display.

The stall also included comics and books by some other glasgow based artists and comics collectives including my studio mate Silje Eirin Aure and Khaki Shorts .

In addition to manning a stall I also participated in a discussion about British comics with some big British comics world players (Left to Right: Paul Gravett, Sam Arthur from No Brow Press, Brian & Mary Talbot, Warren Pleece and me). I gave my humble interpretation of what the comics scene is like in Glasgow.

Edno Magazine Exhibtion
Yet another Bulgarian exhibition. Yes another. I had some work in a group show in Sofia again, this time with the Tsarino Foundation and Edno Magazine.

The show accompanied the launch of a new issue of Edno, a Bulgarian Arts and Culture publication that featured an article about the residency. Some images from the show can be found on the Edno facebook page and the article can be found here.

Thanks to the Hope Scott Trust for supporting my participation in the Water Tower Festival and to all of the nice people I met in Bulgaria. For more information check the Watertower Festival Facebook Page and Website.

Tsarino Foundation Residency, Bulgaria

Tsarino is a deserted village without electricity and running water. Very close to the border with Greece, it is located in the Rhodope mountain region in Kurdzhali, Bulgaria. Nearly the entire former population left Tsarino just before the fall of communism. Now that there's only one remaining inhabitant, Tsarino has been removed from the map. The residency involved making new work for an exhibition in a nearby village called Chorbadzhiysko.

I designed this poster which was pinned up in a few different villages. That's me by the bin! 'ЦАРИНО' means Tsarino and 'Давид Питър Керр' is my name written in Cyrillic.

I also exhibited a new series of drawings and prints based on some research I have been doing about search engines, operating systems, google, facebook, free software and open source technology.

This drawing is titled 'Очаквана дялова печалба на google maps от Царино 2011' which means 'Predicted profit share for google maps from Tsarino 2011'

This one is titled 'google ads'

This image is based on real data describing the usage share of different web search engines as of March 2011.

This image is based on data describing the usage share of different operating systems as of March 2011

This is another part of the project, I placed a series of appropriated facebook 'posts' around different locations in Bulgaria. There are some more pictures from this series on my blog and here.

This project has also been featured on a few interesting blogs. Including Rebel Art and Urban Chereography

I will be returning to Sofia again in September to participate in another group show of the work produced during the Tsarino residency. For more pictures and information check out the Tsarino Foundation Facebook Page and Blog

NHS Tobacco Awareness Project:

I have just finished a fairly gigantic commission for NHS Lanarkshire and North and South Lanarkshire councils. I created a series of 60 colour illustrations for an education pack titled 'Smoke in Your Eyes.'

The story I illustrated followed the lives of two school children Hannah and Scott. I had to illustrate the characters growing up in a series of scenarios that were relevent to different school year groups from Primary 4 to S6.

And'Art Marrakesh
I've just got back from Morrocco where I participated in the 2010 And'Art Festival in Marrakesh. Here's a quick run down of what I got up to...

I co-designed this poster in collaboration with another fine illustrator and comic artist named Daniel Locke.

I also created some new drawings which were exhibited in a group show at Rempart Gallery.

A cafe in the Medina inspired me to design this record cover for an imaginary Gnawa Album.

And to wrap the trip up I jumped about with a group of musicians in the Theatre Royal.

In addition to all of that I also got the opportunity to help facilitate a collage workshop at a blind school which you can read about here
